BLIND ITEM : ALL STAR WEEKEND !!!!

Things were poppin for All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. Pro Baller party packages were going for $1,500 dollars in the form of a key, this key granted you full access to all parties and events associated with a particular pro baller and some parties allowed a guy to bring three girls as guests and a woman was allowed to bring 2 guests, male or female.



A few of the parties started at 2 a.m. and ended at 6 a.m.



But one party surpassed all others.



It was given in a mansion. Cell phones (cameras) were not allowed on the premises for good reason.



Strippers and escorts were flown in from all over the world.



This party was so off the chain that you had women walking around buck naked (straight tricking) among clothed party guests.

Stripper poles were erected in the living room where women were performing routines. A former black solo singer (who is now in a trio, don't know if they're still together) acted like he had never been around seductive women before. He couldn't control himself and was touching the stripper everywhere as she performed in front of him.



When a very famous rapper arrived, he was led to a private room where the most attractive women were waiting to service him. This didn't stop the other women from banging on the door, trying to get in on the action.



When a half-pint singer arrived, he walked around with a God complex but he got his share of attention from the ladies because of his fame.



Ballers were also making it rain, throwing money from the balcony out on the floor, the floor and stairwell was covered with $100 dollar bills.



A rapper with alleged money problems arrived and got upset that he wasn't shown to a private room.


Instead, he walked around the party with a deflated ego.

We recently featured Air Jordan Dub Zero - White - Cement Grey and here we feature another colorway that is slated to release within the next few months. This time around, they sport black patent leather at the base of the upper along with black and white detailing and illustrations on the side panels. The Nike Women’s Court Force High and Vandal Low paired here are part of the Pucci Pack, and feature an unlikely inspiration. Inspired by Italian fashion design Emilo Pucci’s geometrical design, they feature white designs along with gold, mint pink, and grey accents. Pucci’s designs are most notable at the heel on the Court Force and front of the Vandal Low. They are constructed from a combination of sport satin, patent and full grain leather. GQ'S AUSTRALIA !!!!!

Here is the March cover of GQ Australia. Interestingly, it represents the second time in almost as many months that the Sydney-based Chic Management agency has managed to wangle a multi-girl Oz cover with its models. Here Sarah Stephens joins Elyse Taylor and Pania Rose for the topless cover of GQ’s special “Love Sex Madness” edition which focusses on “Australia’s hottest supermodels”, as snapped by expat Australian Daniela Federici. In November, the cover of Madison magazine featured Rose, Taylor and Stephens, together with Chic stablemates Abbey Lee Kershaw, Catherine McNeil, Alyssa Sutherland and Miranda Kerr (with Nicole Trunfio, Skye Stracke and Jessica Gomes - who are repped by other agencies - pictured with Stephens and Kershaw on the rollout cover). While the latter was a charity initiative, this GQ cover was not. Curiously, neither Kerr nor McNeil were available for it.


This is by no means the only topless magazine cover featuring fashion models that is circulating at the moment.

Others are in fact not as discreet as GQ - one case in point, the full-frontal topless shot of Brit Eliza Cummins on the cover of the March edition of Britain’s Dazed & Confused.

But GQ’s "Hottest supermodels" headline is a little confusing.

Kerr's Victoria’s Secret contract helped propel her to the 10th position of Forbes 2008 Top-Earning Models list.

Catherine McNeil’s earnings would also vastly exceed those of GQ’s cover trio.

Myf Shepherd is a bigger name than both Rose and Taylor but presumably she fell short in GQ’s bombshell evaluation – or else she wasn’t interested. Given some of the accompanying copy, we can’t say we blame her.

Tagged with the “Love” part of GQ's "Love Sex Madness" section headline, Pania Rose tells GQ via a blowup quote:
“I know love. I’m a good partner. I like to give a lot to my man”


Lumped with the “Sex” tag – which in a headline looks very much like it reads “SEX SARAH” - Stephens is photographed on her hands and knees, performing a sex kitten crawl along a beach.

Stephens looks like she is ready for action - and courtesy of a pullout quote in large font, GQ draws our attention to precisely what type of action that might be:
“I’m a goofy, band-geek Catholic schoolgirl who’s never even had a boyfriend”

We all know that sex sells. Also that sexy is where the big modelling money lies. And more's the pity.


But seriously, is it not possible to have a little dignity with that?

According to model blog Modelinia, Shaik celebrated her 18th birthday on February 11 with Beckford at NY resto Indochine – before heading to the Victoria’s Secret What Is Sexy? party. Frockwriter was wondering just who else might pop up on the NYFW model radar from left of field. And voilà: Shanina Shaik. The 18 year-old runnerup of Australia’s Make Me A Supermodel 2008 walked in at least four New York shows over the weekend: Abaete, Shipley & Halmos, Mara Hoffman and Lorick. Repped by Chadwicks in Australia and now, New York Model Management, Shaik appears to have attracted the attention of not only NY casting directors, but also the host of the US Make Me A Supermodel, Tyson Beckford (pictured ^ with Shaik at last Wednesday's Victoria's Secret party).

In spite of her NY showcard - a mixture to date of predominantly smaller label shows - Shaik seems a little too sexy for the high fashion runway.

But sexy is certainly where much of the modelling money is to be found.

Interestingly, while already compared to VS Angel Miranda Kerr by Make Me A Supermodel Australia judge/Chadwicks ceo Martin Walsh, Modelinia reports that Shaik may now be “under consideration” for Victoria’s Secret.

The newest Nike SB Dunk to release is the black and baltic blue pair shown above which draws inspiration from the theme of an Angel and a Devil. The Angel and Devil theme is not evident at first, but after a quick look at the insole, the inspiration becomes quite obvious. Featuring a black upper with a blue toebox, ankle, and swoosh, this pair has a clean and sleek look. Nike has incorporated a bit more color into this pair by including red accents on the tongue, the heel, and the swoosh outline. FASHION WEEK : NEW YORK STYLE !!!!!!

Well the Fall/Winter 09/10 show season blasts off in 10 hours' time in New York, with a few shows around town, followed by the kickoff of the main Mercedes Benz Fashion Week event at Bryant Park on the morning of Friday 13th. But with big guns such as Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson and Donna Karan swapping tent shows for modest showroom presentations - and Halston announcing as late as yesterday that it is ditching even a presentation for an el cheapo video - even those who are showing are playing it lowkey. The guest list of the week's biggest show, Marc Jacobs, has been razored from 2000 to 700, with the afterparty, in addition to, frockwriter hears, the usually no-expense-spared staging, nixed altogether. Toni Maticesvki is the only Australian designer brave enough to show in this bleak economic climate. Those US retailers still standing, are cash-strapped. Chiconomics and Recessionista are the fashion buzzwords du jour. Hell, even the models are being offered half rates – at least, those who weren’t already being paid in "trade". Abbey Lee Kershaw will miss the New York leg because of a knee injury, leaving Myf Shepherd, Catherine McNeil and Stephanie Carta as the main Oz models in town. Carta was just nominated as one of New York magazine’s Top 10 models to watch at the event. But look, if they can't get full rates then at least the mods can benefit from the CFDA's new line of model health merch. Can't they?

The Council of Fashion Designers of America's model health initiative was launched in January 2007, in response to the 2006 deaths of two South American models from eating disorders.

This season the CFDA has launched a line of limited edition merchandise designed by American fashion names such as Karan and Michael Kors, all items from which incorporate the “health is beauty” mantra.

WWD got the scoop on the line in today's issue. Pictured above is a Michael Kors tote which sells for US$25 at Bryant Park. All proceeds will go back to the CFDA Foundation.

It is well worth pointing out that the CFDA model health initiative takes a softly-softly approach to the subject of model weight, instead of a more draconian position.

Elite athletes are, for example, routinely subjected to drug testing.

It is highly unlikely however that we are ever going to see this sort of procedure implemented in the fashion arena. At the very least, it would pose a logistical nightmare.

Frockwriter can't help thinking however that backstage etc drug testing might well yield some fascinating results.

CFDA executive director Steven Kolb tells WWD today:

“I feel validated that the choices we made two years ago not to require Body Mass Index (BMI), doctors or a health certificate, and make it about education and awareness really resonated. There has definitely been a change.”

There sure has been a change, especially in the limbs of some elite runway models, which appear to getting more twig-like by the season - not to mention those of some of the young women who so obsessively follow their careers. Some more high-profile than others.

These parties, and their professional entourages who appear to have turned a blind eye to the issue, really should get a grip. Because it ain't pretty.

California-based toy customizer Dustin Cantrell has recently created a hybrid between technology and toys for ToyCyte. His latest creation is an amalgamation of Kidrobot’s staple Dunny and a plasma globe. Dustin gained recognition from his 3rd Place winning Custom T.W.E.R.P. Mad*L which was also a union of technology and vinyl. A detailed interview and Cantrell’s sci-fi themed creation can be acquired via contest over at ToyCyte.

MARK "THE COBRA SNAKE" HUNTER : SERPENTINE GALLERY !!!!!

Mark 'The Cobrasnake' Hunter and his party shots of Australian models have become regulars on this blog since frockwriter first went live in July. And so it was with some interest that frockwriter stumbled upon the following Hunter photo portfolios on a blog called The Selby, a kind of Vogue Interiors of the urban hipster set. This time the camera was turned on Hunter and some family members. The photos, and accompanying mini interviews, which were posted last year, reveal some other facets to the party reportage king.

Some of the more interesting shots include an amusing portrait of what looks to be a teenage Cobrasnake off to the Prom with his date (pictured at the top of this post). Also a shot of Hunter sitting on a children’s single bunk bed with cartoon bed linen. It's not clear if this is Hunter's own bed or that of the child of a flatmate.

Grandmother Renee, meanwhile (pictured below), lives in quite a glamorous Santa Monica apartment, decorated with a Chinoiserie theme.

Grandma's advice for Hunter on matters of the heart?

“Play the field. Be really sure ‘she’s the one and don’t marry until at least 35”.



Renee also makes some interesting revelations about Hunter’s business acumen, which it seems was evident from an early age.

Renee tells The Selby:

“Mark was always the ‘coolest kid’ -- adorable, smart — and very loving. He was always extremely ‘enterprising’. When he was about 9 years old, he bought a large bag of candy from the 99 cent store, and sold the individual pieces to the kids at school for a quarter each”.


Then there is the pic portfolio of Hunter's beloved grandfather “Boppy”, who signs his name on the attached questionnaire as Karl Littner.

There are some very sweet photos of Littner, including several in which he sports some Cobrasnake merchandise and one photo which may be Hunter at his Bar Mitzvah.

It is not clear if Littner is Hunter’s paternal or maternal grandfather. Either way, he lives independently of Renee - in a more modest, loft-like LA affair.


Littner gives enough details away on his questionnaire to identify himself as one and the same Karl Littner whose moving life story has been well documented elsewhere online.

A holocaust survivor, Littner was born in Auschwitz (aka Oswiecim/Oshpitzin), Poland in 1924 and spent several years interned in concentration camps.

Most grandparents are proud of their progeny.

But frockwriter can’t help thinking that Hunter’s chosen profession may have some extra significance for Littner.




In one of his life stories called The Brown Picture, Littner talks about a sepia-tinted photograph taken by his grandfather, Akiba Enoch.

After emigrating to Chicago in 1910 to make a new life, Enoch sent numerous sepia-tinted photos back to his Polish family as mementos.

Enoch returned to Poland 10 years later and Littner distinctly recalls viewing one such photograph at the age of six.




Many family records were lost in the years 1939-1945, during which time at least 10 members of Littner’s family were wiped out.

But one of the sepia photos turned up again in 1970 via family members in Israel.

Through it, Littner says that he felt an instant reconnection to his identity, so much of which had been eroded by his horrific wartime experiences.



Writes Littner:

“My dignity, all my documents, my birth certificate, my name and my whole family and the life as I knew it, all ended in a moment of time. The inhumane conditions, the hunger and the random damaging beatings, sometimes over the head, made me worry that I would be unable to remember my name, my birth date, my grandfather's brown picture, and who I am.

"In the 1930s, when I was a 6-year-old child, we did not make too many photographs; but the ones I saw, including my grandfather's brown picture, I never forgot; it was imprinted in my memory forever”.
